The Tennessee Aquarium Conservation Institute, TNACI, has been working with partner agencies to return lake sturgeon to Tennessee waters. These amazing fish are among the biggest, and longest-living North American freshwater species. One common in our state, lake sturgeon virtually disappeared from Tennessee in the 1960s due to human activities. The Saving the Sturgeon program has reintroduced more than 115,000 of these magnificent fish to the region since the program began. By contributing one dollar, you will help restore lake sturgeon as a vital link in the food chain and help expand part of the state’s recreational fishing opportunities. Once recovered, sturgeon could be fished commercially, contributing to the regional economy. |
